The Super Wonder Shrine was officially opened in December 2022 and for nearly two years, it has animated the pedestrianised space on the corner of High Street and Regent Street, in Weston-super-Mare, known locally as Big Lamp Corner. Erected in the artist’s trademark timber-built style and adorned with colourful patterns, words and sentiments that celebrate Weston.
It was announced in the Summer of 2022 that a temporary Super Wonder Shrine would be located on the High Street in Weston-Super-Mare. It was co-created and painted by internationally acclaimed public realm artist Morag Myerscough and a cross-generational group of over 100 local residents and students.
It was part of a ‘21st Century super Shrines’, a pioneering heritage project launched in May 2021. The Super Wonder Shrine was completed in December 2022 and was finally taken down in November 2024. It will be relocated to a more permanent location, which is yet to be confirmed.
“Darren, this is a wonderful record of the Shrine’s life. It is so good for me to see how well used it has been…it means a lot.“
