Participant Observation

Anthropology. A research method in which the researcher takes part in the everyday activities, interactions and social life of the people or community being studied, while simultaneously observing and recording their behaviour, relationships and environment. The method is used to gain an understanding of a culture or social group from within, combining direct experience with systematic observation.
