Utterly Lazy – Longlisted for Martin Parr Photo Awards

An utterly lazy half-finished road marking in Weston-super-Mare.

I was delighted that my image of a half-finished road marking, in Weston-super-Mare, was longlisted in the final 50 images (from almost 150 submitted) for this year’s Martin Parr Foundation Members Photo Awards.

Based on the theme of “Utterly Lazy”, to coincide with the launch of the Martin Parr biography, ‘Utterly Lazy & Inattentive‘, I wanted to think a little outside-the-box. I suspected a lot of submissions would feature people sleeping or sunbathing (and I wasn’t wrong in that regard!) and I actually question whether simply being asleep or sunbathing is actually being ‘utterly lazy’?

The images had to have been taken during the Summer of 2025 and with this image I was intending to show the utter laziness of British workmanship – in addition to simply amusing me somewhat. Hopefully I succeeded?

Martin described it as “a good photo, a little weird and an original fit for theme,” so I’ll take that!
